What the 2024/25 report reveals
This year’s combined report brings together 147 data sets from farm businesses across Southern Australia, focusing on key profit drivers. The 2024/25 season was challenging: below-average rainfall at sowing, followed by a dry winter and spring, led to poor crop establishment and reduced yields. Wheat and barley prices softened, lentil prices held steady, and canola remained strong despite global uncertainty.
Regional highlights
Despite tough conditions, some regions stood out. The Victorian Wimmera, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Lower South East, and Yorke Peninsula recorded the highest profitability levels. These results underline the value of benchmarking - not just for one season, but across multiple years, to manage trends rather than react to isolated events.
Why benchmarking matters
Seasonal variability is part of farming. Making decisions based on a single year can be risky. Benchmarking over time gives you the context you need to plan with confidence and resilience.
