5 years of Next Gen Breakthrough

26 Nov 2024

Next Gen Breakthrough 600x400px
From strength to strength, 5 years of Next Gen Breakthrough

Now with over 70 participants, Next Gen Breakthrough is about to turn five!

Since 2020, Next Gen Breakthrough has been kicking goals for emerging farm managers and their families.

Along with the whole team at Pinion Advisory, Royce and I are proud of what we have achieved in the last five years. Kicking off a program in the middle of a global pandemic was one of the first hurdles to overcome. Each year we have continued to improve and grow the program. In 2025, we will have three groups running, one in each year of the program.

As we work with the Next Gen cohort and their mentors, we get to be part of changes that will impact the future of their farm and family. We feel privileged to support and guide families and businesses through this period. We witness small but invaluable changes such as:

  • Stronger relationships and enhanced communication,
  • Clarity around the future direction of the farm and their role in it,
  • Development of management skills and decision-making tools, and
  • Increased personal confidence and leadership skills to work effectively in their business.

We have worked with participants from all stages of their farming career. Some have been involved for a while and are an active member of the management team, whilst others have only recently joined their business. They’ve all loved it, as Next Gen Breakthrough was the next step to build skills and develop a plan for the future with their parents. We know participants will benefit from being involved provided they’re willing to learn, are proactive and maintain the momentum between sessions.

We have created a large network of young farmers, from Ceduna in the west to Nhill in the east and everywhere in between! The groups love coming together over the three years and checking in on progress and milestones in each family.

Another benefit has been seeing the pride mentors feel towards their children/next gen during the three-year program. As they watch them grow and develop, mentors thrive in their role and enjoy sharing knowledge with the whole group.

In 2025 we will commence a new group and places are now open. Please contact us if you would like information.

On the horizon will be a Next Gen Alumni event or conference to build on these strong foundations and reconnect our growing network.

It is very satisfying to be working on a program that is positively impacting farming families. It is already a career highlight, and it isn’t over yet!
